The Office of the Health and Disability Commissioner promotes and protects the rights of health and disability services consumers, which includes resolution of complaints about services. It has two senior leadership opportunities.

Deputy Commissioner, Complaints Resolution — Ref. 7525

Based in Auckland, the Deputy Commissioner, Complaints Resolution, is a statutory decision-maker who provides professional leadership to the Assessment and Investigations teams. The Deputy Commissioner will focus on resolving a wide range of complaints across all health and disability disciplines, and determine appropriate resolution paths in relation to the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights. The Deputy Commissioner will play a leading role in the design and development of HDC’s complaints resolution services.

Deputy Health and Disability Commissioner — Ref. 7720

Based in Wellington, the Deputy Health and Disability Commissioner is a statutory decision-maker who will make decisions on a wide range of complaints, including complaints about mental health and addiction services and prison health services, and determine appropriate resolution paths in relation to the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights. The Deputy Commissioner will lead the Strategy team and assist the Commissioner with the HDC’s strategic work programme.

Both roles form part of HDC’s senior leadership team and, as such, will contribute to the strategic management and continuing development of the organisation. Both roles will require a candidate who has proven leadership experience, intellectual capacity, and sound judgement. A tertiary qualification in law or health is preferred.
